Late Middle Age mod for Total War: Kingdoms

The Roar of Conquest Mod is a free-to-use game utility developed by user Lord Vinciullo and powered by moddb. This is a mod created for Medieval II: Total War: Kingdoms, featuring an original campaign as well as a number of improvements from other mods. Mainly, it shifts the balance and makes lesser factions stronger than they were in the vanilla version.

Although it’s not a mod from scratch, it does make significant improvements across all gameplay aspects. Aside from Roar of Conquest Mod, you can also check out the 1290 AD: Sword of Conquest Mod and Bulat Steel Total War mods.

Turning the world upside-down

According to the developer, he created Roar of Conquest Mod in response to lacking features from another mod. From fixing known bugs, the project grew to include a number of original content materials for the game. The main change, however, is in the rebalancing of the game. Factions known to be minor in vanilla are now worthy opponents in every single-player and multiplayer game.

It also features custom character models and skins, improving certain factions in-game such as the Cossacks, the Hussars, the Streltsy, and more. The reskins make some units even more distinguishable and others just look a lot better than they did in the base game. There are also new factions that aren’t available elsewhere, such as the Timurids–known as the Mongolian clansmen of Tamerlane.

However, there are certain traits in this mod that make it unsuitable for inexperienced players. The AI behavior, for example, employs harassment and aggressive tactics–behavior only found in the harder difficulty settings. Additionally, some unit textures fail to load in the game. It can manifest as the unit bearing the default skin or appearing in a solid-colored model. Other than that, it’s great and largely playable.

A massive mod

With the content featured in the Roar of Conquest Mod, from fixes to additional content, it’s a massive mod you definitely can’t miss. Not only does it improve and consolidate earlier mods for Total War: Kingdoms, it also adds its own twist by rebalancing the original factions and introducing the Timurids in place of the Mongolians. Aside from a few little texture issues, the mod is good and definitely recommended.

PROS

  • Rebalances all factions in the game
  • Features custom character models
  • Introduces new, custom factions

CONS

  • Base AI built from Hard difficulty
  • Minor texture glitches
